Its that time of year again. The Christmas holiday season is almost, and what better way to get into the mood than setting up the Christmas tree? We didn’t put it up last year (hmmm… I wonder why? Maybe laziness…..) but this year, the kids kept pestering to put it up, promising to help. :) Was still lazy actually today, since I just got back from Pakistan, but thought it should be a worthwhile thing to do with the kids having been away for 7 days.

We’ve had our tree for a little over 7 years now, and Chris and I were wondering if we should simply get a new tree. So, we headed down to Ikea for dinner and a spot of Christmas tree and decoration shopping. After looking at the real pines, the kids decided that our tree was more beautiful, and that we should only buy some new decorations. ok lor….

When we reached home, it was Christmas tree set up time!

The tree was bought from Geylang and ts really quite simple to setup. A metal base and a wooden bamboo stem.

Then each level of branches has a central holder. Here goes the first branches.

The kids are already pumped up, and are so excited! It helps to have christmas music in the background. :)

Just added the 3rd layer of branches. Looking good!

Hmm… it’ll need some presents under it. :)

Some of the blokes here in the office are watching the live handing over ceremony by General Pervez Musharraf on streaming Geo TV, which was ordered to shut down as part of the emergency decree in Pakistan. :) cool…

I’m putting up at the Pearl-Continental Hotel in Lahore. Its a local hotel. yeah, but its a pretty good one, like the Taj in India. Second time I’m here. Reason being that Lahore doesn’t have a single International Hotel chain! Can you believe that?

Anyways, I brought my colleague to the very nice and local Bukhara Restaurant next to the pool side. The walk to Bukhara was really chilly. Brrrrrr……the temperature has dipped quite a bit. It must be about 12 degrees.

Buhara serves local Pakistani cuisine, which really means bbq meat, bbq meat, and more bbq meat. Chicken, Beef, Lamb, Fish, all cooked in various spices and in ten different ways. Then there is the clear chicken broth. Wahhhh……..

I arrived in Lahore to a thick heavy fog that blanketed the entire city. The pilot’s announcement that it was 12 degrees caught me off guard. Uh… I’m not dressed for 12 degrees.

But… anyhow, it was still interesting. After the scorching sun in Karachi, its like going to Genting Highlands.

After landing in Lahore at 6:15pm, thousands of PML supporters thronged the Lahore International airport. This is a grab from Dawn TV in Pakistan. Wah… I really dunno how safe it would be to go to Lahore now (I’m due to fly to Lahore on Tuesday morning). I guess I’ll wat to see how things are by tomorrow.

We headed out to the office this morning with the intention of getting all the desktop machines connected to the central servers (since they were just moved over to the new office last night), but when we arrived, and did some work to clear up the cabling in the server room, we realised that our local IT team has already got all the workstations connected! Good work. :) We stayed on to clear up some downloads in preparation for tomorrow’s work, and headed back to the hotel.

Somehow, I didn’t sleep properly last night, and had a tension headache, and promptly got into bed to sleep it off.

Woke up to live reports of Nawaz Sharif (The ex premier of Pakistan) returning to Lahore after his exile in Saudi Arabia.

By the way, I have a cool 42″ Plasma TV in the room. Eat your heart out dudes who stay in the Sharaton!

It was a nice creamy (albeit a little powdery) Lentil soup that I had for breakfast this morning.

It’s always refreshing to try and understand biblical stories first hand. In this case, it was trying to understand why Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of lentil soup. :)

Um….. the soup was nice. But….uh… I wouldn’t even give up my seat for this bowl of soup. :D
