Have been really busy of late……

Busy playing Disgea: Afternoon Of Darkness on my PSP every available moment I have. That means during my bus ride to work, on my way back home from the office, and after lights out, I play till my eyes close. :) Ha! This RPG game is really fun.

So haven’t been updating. Now just gearing up for Chinese New Year, so nothing much to post until after Feb 7. :)

I received a call from a very good friend and ex-colleague, the indomitable Prof JB Williams last Friday.

Prof: “Hi Paul… How are you doing?”
Paul: “Hi Prof, I’m great! How are things with you?”
Prof: “Not too bad, thanks.”
Paul: “To what do I owe the honour?”
Prof: “Well, actually, I called to ask if you would like to have dinner next week….”
Paul: “Uh…. Prof…. I like you and all that, but… uh…”
Prof: “Shaddap boy. We’re havin’ dinner with ISEAS and LKY at the Shangri La next week. You in or out?”
Paul: (Eyes wide) “Woah… Prof!…. You the Man! I’m in! I’m in!”

In retrospect, I must have sounded pretty dorky. A reminder to be more circumspect of this in future. :)
Anyways, I was pretty excited with the opportunity to finally get to see MM Lee Kuan Yew in person, since the only brush with him was a glimpse of his silhouette as our cars crossed paths just merely centimeters from each other at the corner of Oxley and Penang Road one Saturday evening last year.

Last evening, Daddyto4 swung by to pick me up and we headed to the Shang together. The whole place was abuzz with diplomats, academics, business folks, and a tight security cordon.

Apart from a good catch up with old friends and colleagues, it was a wonderful night of listen to MM’s wisdom and practical advice to questions from the floor.

Daddyto4 has a pretty good shot here of Professor Williams and MM Lee. ;)

I’ve been following to some degree over the last week or so, the American presidential race in particular, the Iowa Caucus and the upcoming New Hampshire Primary. I’ve certainly learnt quite abit about American politics in this time, and as I’m still continuing to learn more about the political landscape of this country. I certainly am not saying I know American politics well. Hell, I’m just skimming the surface. But heres my completely non-informed, non-scientific take on the outcome.

After last night’s Democratic and Republican debate in New Hampshire, I’d make the following predictions before Tuesday’s Primary and of course February’s Super Tuesday, etc etc.

Two Nominees

Democrat - Barack Obama
Republican - John McCain

And… the person who will become the next President of The United States of America…..

Barack Obama

Remember… you heard it here first. :)

It was Kyla’s first day and week in Primary 1! Finally! Seeing Kyla in her spanking (and frankly oversized) uniform, it just made me so proud of her. :) She is really growing up…. sigh… soon I will have to deal with a teenager.

I was on leave on Wednesday for Kyla’s first day at school, and when both of us reached school together after a casual 5 minutes walk, I realised so had the rest of the world. :)

Within another 5 minutes, I began wondering why I took leave for. Parents are not allowed in the assembly hall with the kids. Kyla went up to the hall while the parents stayed on in the canteen. Luckily, I met with BigDaddy and his wife, as well as my bro and his wife. So we stayed on for a little chat over iced milo. I forgot how cheap drinks used to cost in primary school. This, however did not quell my displeasure over comfort for up-ping my bus fare from S$40 a month to S$110 a month (S$5 per trip). More than a 100% increase!!!!

I then went back home for a while before heading back to the school for Kyla’s recess time at 3pm. Again, I don’t why I took leave, as the girls are all paired with a Primary 5 buddy, and parents are not allowed to go into the canteen with the kids. Can you imagine a bunch of adults watching the kids eat? It was like a zoo! Heres Kyla with her buddy.

Kyla came back beaming, and excited for the next day at school… hee…. if only I could regain that feeling about school. :)
