Nothing much happening… I’ve been cycling the rocks since Oct 28th, so its day 4 now. Ammonium (NH4) has spiked to 5mg/l, which means Ammonia (NH3) is about 0.075mg/l. Very toxic.
Nitrite (NO2) readings are still ZERO, but strangely, Nitrate (NO3) is at 10mg/l for the past 2 days…. *scratch head*

In any case, I bought 2 Chromis and 2 Damsels for the cycling process….. a bit cruel lah, putting them through this..

Also bought a Knobbly Sea Star for the kids to touch and learn. Left the Knobbly outside on another tank though with fresh changes of water every few days. Don’t want the ammonia to kill it.

Bought a 100 Litre plastic drum for future water changes, and to use now for curing and cycling my rocks….

Oct 28
My Artica 1/4hp chiller for my tank.

Yesterday, I went to Lim Chu Kang with a buddy “F” at work, and came away with some 27kgs of Live Rocks for the new tank. I don’t think its gonna be enough, but it should suffice for now.
The rocks are now at home curing in 3 different pails and a styrofoam box.

The larger rocks in the styrofoam box. This nice flat rock will make the tank look really nice.

Another three tonga rocks in the pail.

I just did an amonia test on the water in the styrofoam box, and its spiked to 2mg/l. This should come down again back to zero by the next 3 to 5 days as the bacteria builds up and breaks down the amonia to Nitrite before finally breaking it down to Nitrate. Once Amonia and Nitrite is zero, the rocks are cycled.

Just bought my first marine fish! Was at Marine Life Hobbielist at Hong Leong Gardens, and came across this fine specimen of an Adorned Wrasse from South Africa. I bought the fish, and will leave it at the shop until my tank is fully cycled.

Very last photo of the tank…..before the boys came over to collect the fishes…

In the process of catching the Neon & Gold Tetras. Had to drain the water and pull out the plants….

Finally, after more than 3 hours of cleaning, the tank is finally empty and cleaned…. trying to sell it now. Anyone interested?

This is probably the last front tank shot of my freshwater aquarium.
I’ve decided to move over to marine!
Yeah!!! It’s gonna take lots of planning, planning and more planning. Its also gonna cost a lot more! But in the meantime, will be slowly de-commissioning this tank.

Its been 4 months since we moved into our new house in Hougang, and the Balcony has also undergone a little transformation.
Heres how it looked like in May.

Today, the Roses, Geberas are gone…. not sure how to care for them. My frangipani has stopped blooming, but I’ve added in a mango tree, and the garden looks a little more lush…

There are also a few more additions to the balcony.
I’ve added 2 flower boxes of Cherry Tomatoes and another 3 (2 foot) boxes of Cuphea hyssopifolia…. simply beautiful!

The tomatoes have been growing for a little over 2 months now, and some have begun flowering!
I’m eagerly waiting for tomatoes!

Diagonal view of the flower pots… the balcony gets full sunlight from 7am in the morning all the way through 1pm, and the balcony is very very bright. Very good for sun loving plants.

Just some close ups of the Cuphea…

Not only do they come in purple, they also come in white!

Not to forget my mango…. its fruiting, and we’re looking forward to eating this one!
